½jalapeno, seeded and chopped

½ teaspoonfresh thyme

⅕ teaspooncayenne pepper, optional for added spice

⅕ teaspoonliquid smoke, see note

½ cupdried black eyed peas, soaked overnight (see note)

1 ½ cupsveggie broth, low sodium if needed

2 cupscooked white or brown riceI love the frozen cooked to make it fast
